ELECTION MONITORING & VOTER AND CIVIC EDUCATION PROGRAM
Free and fare Election is one of the fundamental pre requisites to establishing democracy and good governance. KF initiated this program in joint collaboration with Bangladesh Election Commission (BEC) in order to establish democracy and governance as well as ensure political freedom. The main objective is to Support free & fair elections through election monitoring before, on and after Election Day as well as provide voter and civic education.Khan Foundation (KF) believes that election is a sign of democracy. Election is considered the ultimate expression of free sovereign democratic nations and to be democratic so that its people would exercise election. A good democracy also requires the division of power between the institutions of democracy. During the last two decades, KF plays as a pioneer organization having a strong vision establishing good governance in Bangladesh. It has been working with domestic groups and coalitions to bring citizens together for election monitoring efforts to ensure electoral integrity and to promote accountability in government and among political contestants. The foundation is also one of the founder principal members of Election Working Group (EWG) the biggest national coalition working on election issues and good governance in Bangladesh.
Election Monitoring
Election is precondition for democracy. It is considered the decisive expression of free sovereign democratic nations. A good democracy also requires the division of power between the institutions of democracy. During the last two decades, KF plays as a pioneer organization having a strong vision establishing good governance in Bangladesh. It has been working with domestic groups and coalitions to bring citizens together for election monitoring efforts to ensure electoral integrity and to promote accountability in government and among political contestants. The foundation is also one of the founder principal members of Election Working Group (EWG) the biggest national coalition working on election issues and good governance in Bangladesh. KF observes all forms of elections in local and national level.
GOAL
The overarching goal of election observation and voter & civic education program is to support efforts to strengthen democratic processes and institutions and to support the conduct of elections that meet international standards, are peaceful, and have credible results.
Objectives
The objective of the program is to support free, fair, meaningful and participatory elections through election monitoring before, during and after the Election Day.

If we try to find out the objectives separately
  1. Enhance the quality and authenticity of elections.
  2. Raise public awareness in election processes.
  3. Detect and deter election fraud, irregularities and electoral manipulation.
  4. Provide an important avenue for citizen participation and important information concerning the character of elections.
  5. Encourage large-scale participation of voters specially women, new voters and marginalized people in the election by building confidence in the electoral process.
Build connections between desires of citizens and behavior of policy makers to bring power of the people.

Khan Foundation is also a member of the Election Working Group (EWG), which is a non-partisan, 29-member coalition of civil society organizations that share a common commitment to free and fair elections and good governance in Bangladesh.
ELECTION MONITORING APPROACH AND METHODOLOGY:
KF is devoted to the commitment to follow a non-partisan approach while conducting its election related activities.
  1. Involve the public representatives (UP Chairmen and Members). Local NGO's women lawyers and community people in the course of implementation mechanism of this project
  2. Inclusion of some tangible and non-tangible ingredients in the program i.e. posters, leaflets, flyers, booklets, handbills and video films etc
  3. Forming a Citizen Alliance for Promoting Transparency and Accountability. The working committee consists of local level NGOs, local community leaders, religious leaders, members of the youth club, teachers. In short the committee would represent all the communities across party line.
  4. Build social awareness of citizen on civic education through election fair, rallies, outreach meeting, banner display, canvassing through loud speaker and different recreational media like drama, dance, songs etc.
Conduct training to make the observers conscious and efficient for observing and cooperating in a free, fair credible election.
Stakeholders
For achieving its goal KF always find voters (male and female) who are marginalized one of the main stakeholders. Bangladesh Election Commission (BEC) the another important stakeholder for the patient assistance rendered in completing the accreditation process, finalizing the deployment plans of accredited organizations, and issuing clarifying instructions to local election offices etc. Candidates, local level election officials, elected representatives, government officials including law enforcing agencies, national and international election monitoring organizations and political parties the other main stakeholders.
