Strengthening Local Democracy through Empowered Local Government and Citizen Participation
The Democratic Local Government Program (DLGP) project implemented to strengthen local government institutions by improving the capacity of elected representatives, promoting transparency in public management, and increasing citizen participation in local decision-making. The project focused particularly on elected women representatives of Union Parishads across seven districts of Bangladesh.
This initiative also focused on assessing and improving the financial management systems, institutional capacity, training mechanisms, and governance practices of Union Parishads and local government institutions in Bangladesh. The project promoted improved planning, budgeting, resource management, capacity development, and participatory governance.
