National Seminar on “The Socio-economic, Legal and Environmental Implications of the Rohingya Crisis” On November 02, 2017,Khan Foundation hosted a National Seminar on “The Socio-economic, Legal and Environmental Implications of the Rohingya Crisis” at Hotel Bengal Blueberry, Gulshan-2, Dhaka. The main objective of the National Seminar was to analyze the origin of Rohingyas,evaluate the reason and extent of persecution by the Myanmar government and identify the severity of short and long term impacts of the Rohingya crisis unless post conflict resolutions are negotiated immediately. Environmental specialist Dr. Saleemul Huq, Chairperson of Khan Foundation, Director of ICCCAD and Senior Fellow of IIED chaired the session. Advocate Rokhsana Khondker, Executive Director of Khan Foundation provided the opening remarks and Naureen Khan, Research Coordinator and Focal Person of Khan Foundation presented a key note paper focusing the impacts of the Rohingya crisis on our country’s socio-economic, environmental and legal issues. Dr.Abdul Moyeen Khan, Former Minister of Information, Government ofBangladesh, Mr. Abul Hasan Chowdhury, Former State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Government of Bangladesh, Dr. Zaidi Sattar, Chairman of Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh, Ms Ellen Wong, Deputy Political & Economic Chief of United States Embassy in Bangladesh, Ms Jane Hardy, Second Secretary of Australian High Commission, Mr. Kaspar Grossenbacher, Country Director of Helvetas Bangladesh were also present at the seminar and expressed their valuable opinions on the Rohingyas and shared their views on how to move forward to facilitate the peace process and establish post conflict resolution to end the crisis. Among other speakers such as Mr. Gawher Nayeem Wahra, Adjunct Faculty of University of Dhaka and Dr. Abhinaya Chandra Saha, Vice Chancellor of The Millennium University, Mr. Abul Kashem, Executive Director of HELP Cox’s Bazar shared his practical work experiences of Kutupalong refugee camps in the Ukhia Upazilla of Cox's Bazar district. |
