National Advocacy Seminar Climate Change and Womens Sexual & Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR): following the COP21 in Paris



 National Advocacy Seminar on Climate Change and Women's Sexual &Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) following the COP21 in Paris hasbeen arrange by the Khan Foundation on 24 February 2016, Wednesday at DemocracyAuditorium. Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman,Chairman, Palli Karma Foundation was the guest of Honour and Advocate RokhsanaKhondker was the seminar chair. Along with Prof Mohammad Abu Ayub Md Baker,Vice-Chancellor, The Millennium University, Ms Mahmuda Khatun, DeputyRegistrar-TMU, the representatives of UNFPA Ms Rovdi Audersoa and Dr. NadiaRahman, Mr. Harun-or-Rashid, Chief Executive, Light House and others renownedpersons were present in this seminar. A research paper was presented in thisseminar by Ms Naureen Khan, Research Coordinator, KF; Senior Lecturer, TheMellennium University. The main themesof this paper were: global climate change and adoptationof Bnagladeshi marginalized people with it, awarenessraises and given the opportunity in decision-makingamong the women, especially grassroots womenand children who faced problemsregarding SRHR. Advocate Rokhsana Khondker, Executive Director of KhanFoundation has been working on climate change for a long time. This is an importantand current issue for Bangladesh because Bangladesh is one of the vulnerablecountries effects by climate change. Cyclone like Sidr, Aila and Nargis areoften hit in coastal regions. In this regard, we need awareness. We have tothink how we move forward in this globalization era. Most of leaders of manycountries were took part in Paris Conference on 30 November 2015 to 12 December2015. Due to climate change and natural disaster most women and children aresuffer from pure drinking water, food security, especially in pregnant women facethe risks of their reproductive health rights and  malnutrition. Awareness is most important totackle the climate change. Regarding the experience of Paris conference, shesaid that Maldives has well advocacy to face the climate change. It was my wishto organize seminar after back from Paris. The people from disaster-prone areaswere attended in today's seminar. We will listen to their experiences she saidthat. Hopefully it will be possible to deal with climate change cooperatively.
